People spend less than 5 seconds glancing over a website before deciding whether to spend more time engaging with it.
That means you have <5 seconds to stop them in their tracks and get them to take a closer look at your content.
Luckily, research has revealed where users’ eyes tend to go first, so you can place the most important elements on your page right where they will be sure to see them.
Tests show that when people glance at a website, they do so from left to right. They actually favor the left side of the page. They spend more time looking at it.
The F-pattern. Don’t ask me why it’s called that.
This is why many of the most highly optimized sites in the world place their really important stuff on the left.
So remember, things like navigation, content offers and unique value propositions should tend leftwards if you want them to immediately stand out!
Oh, and if your website is in Hebrew, Arabic or another right-to-left language, you might want to switch this up 😉
